Job Description

Public Safety is seeking applicants. Under direct supervision, performs duties related to the health and safety of persons and property at Carthage College. Patrols the campus at designated areas and times, adhering to established procedures and policies for various situations. Work hours typically include evenings, weekends, and holidays on a scheduled basis.

Responsibilities:

1. Patrols College property on foot and by vehicle, inspecting buildings and grounds, identifying suspicious situations, investigating, and acting to prevent problems. Responds to fire, theft, damage, illegal entry, emergencies, and threats.
2. Reports unsafe conditions or practices to appropriate leaders and follows up to ensure resolution.
3. Uses additional resources and campus community members to make appropriate decisions when necessary.
4. Communicates proactively with Public Safety, College administration, local police, and other resources regarding potential issues.
5. Directs traffic and manages event control to ensure safety and smooth operations.
6. Assists and guides campus visitors, providing information and promoting a safe, positive environment.
7. Assists with vehicle lock-out issues upon request.
8. Prepares detailed written reports of activities and completes other administrative tasks as directed.
9. Collaborates with Public Safety team to achieve departmental and college objectives.
10. Attends training sessions, meetings, and participates in hearings as needed.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.
