Public Safety Officer - Armed (Registry/PRN, 3rd Shift)

Position Details
  • Location: Lutheran General Hospital; Park Ridge, IL
  • Status: Registry/PRN, scheduled on-call as needed to fill departmental gaps
  • Shift: 3rd shift when scheduled
Responsibilities
  • Provide security services professionally, fairly, and compassionately, adhering to policies, procedures, and training. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor to inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and staff. Ensure safety by conducting interior and exterior patrols, managing patient valuables, and enforcing security rules. Respond to workplace violence, emergencies, and incidents, including de-escalation and physical intervention when necessary. Investigate incidents, complete reports, and escalate issues appropriately. Collaborate with departments and law enforcement agencies. Maintain current training standards, including radio communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, and Taser use.
Requirements
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) within two years of appointment
  • Valid driver’s license and FOID or CCW license
  • State licensing compliance and ability to obtain Firearm Control Card within 90 days
  • Certification in Taser use within 90 days of hire
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 1 year of experience in security, public safety, or customer service responding to emergent situations
Skills and Abilities
  • Completion of Illinois 40-hour armed course with pistol endorsement
  • Willingness to carry a department firearm and maintain equipment
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and physical/psychological assessments
  • Physical fitness to perform security duties, including restraining individuals and operating firearms
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, drive, lift up to 35 lbs, and operate firearms safely
  • Correctable 20/20 vision or better
  • Exposure to various hazards and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to handle personal stress and assist in restraining individuals when necessary
