- Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging circumstances, following policies, procedures, and training. Presents a professional, approachable, and service-oriented demeanor to inspire confidence in patients, visitors, and team members. Remains alert, observant, and ethical. Enforces safety and security rules and maintains department uniform and equipment in good condition.
- Performs routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections for vulnerabilities, hazards, fire conditions, audits of safety measures, management of patient valuables, and contraband searches. Assists team members, patients, and visitors with information, directions, and physical assistance. Manages traffic, monitors visitor conduct, and questions unauthorized persons.
- Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Handles service calls involving combative or threatening individuals and serves as a primary de-escalation resource.
- Plans, prevents, and responds to emergencies such as infant/child abductions, fires, and active threats. Responds immediately to emergencies, intervening physically when necessary to prevent injury.
- Investigates incidents on Advocate Aurora property, completes reports, and escalates complaints with documentation.
- Conducts liaison rounding to foster partnerships across departments, providing security awareness education to staff.
- Coordinates with law enforcement and first responders, ensuring policy compliance and safety during prisoner transport and other interactions.
- May serve as a preceptor for new officers, providing feedback and maintaining competencies.
- Maintains current training standards in communication, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, Taser use, etc.
Major Responsibilities- Provides professional security services, fostering confidence and adhering to safety policies.

Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required- Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
- Valid driver’s license issued by the DMV.
- Certification in Taser use within 90 days of hire.
Education RequiredHigh School Diploma or GED
Experience Required- At least 1 year in security, public safety, or customer service, responding to emergencies and resolving issues related to safety and security.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by IAHSS (must be obtained within two years of appointment).
- Mature judgment, sound reasoning, courteous demeanor, even in verbal confrontations.
- Ability to assess dangerous situations and act appropriately.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and database entry.
- Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Current training in radio, de-escalation, CPR, restraints, and Taser.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions- Must sit, stand, walk, drive, and lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally. Push/pull with 35 lbs of force.
- Work environment temperature may vary from -10 to 90 degrees.
- Potential exposure to hazards; protective gear required as needed.
- Operate necessary equipment for job performance.
- Ability to defend oneself or others physically.
