Montgomery College is looking for dedicated Public Safety Officers to ensure the safety and security of the medical center campus. This full-time role involves patrolling, responding to emergencies, and interacting with the public and law enforcement. Candidates must possess a high school diploma and be prepared to obtain necessary licenses and certifications. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals with a commitment to service and safety.
JOB SUMMARY
Public Safety Officers patrol the entire medical center campus to promote a climate of safety for all persons and property. They interact effectively with the general public, administration, all departments, colleagues, and local, state, and federal law enforcement, civil defense, fire department, and ambulance personnel.
Safety Officers respond to various requests for assistance, including reports of suspicious or criminal activity. They support staff in handling disgruntled visitors and respond to other disturbances. They also respond to combative patient calls as part of the STARR team.
They work under OSHA Blood and Body Fluids Category 1 standards, using Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) to reduce exposure risks. Responsibilities include controlling external access, releasing deceased patients from Pathology, investigating accidents, and monitoring fire safety. They conduct drills, perform inspections on fire extinguishers, and investigate safety incidents.
Additional duties involve maintaining Notary Public commissions, managing Lost and Found Property, providing courtesy services, and enforcing hospital policies such as parking and badge wearing.
JOB DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS
Type: Full-time, 80 hours per 2-week pay period
Hours: Evenings, 3 pm - 11 pm, rotating weekends/holidays
Education: High School Diploma, General Studies required
Certifications & Licenses: Must obtain a City of Cape Girardeau Security license within 90 days; BLS certification (provided by the medical center) within 90 days of hire
Experience: One year in public safety preferred
