Provides services as a Public Safety Officer within BMC Department of Public Safety to provide police, security, parking, transportation and control center services as necessary. Ensures consistent and safe service delivery throughout the medical center involving all members’ institutions. Utilizes the medical center’s core values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the medical center’s mission.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

• Performs daily operational functions upon request by the Public Safety Supervisor or the Public Safety Desk Officer to ensure that BMC's operational needs are met efficiently.
• Responds immediately and appropriately to all stat requests, emergency, contingency, or disaster situations, and assigned calls.
• Documents incidents and informs the Public Safety Desk Officer of all actions taken, completing incident reports clearly and legibly.
• Utilizes strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop relationships with the community.
• Manages complex, emotionally charged situations to restore order, investigate criminal activity, and take appropriate safety actions.
• Investigates reports of suspicious activity, hazards, or risks, and takes steps to mitigate them.
• Performs police actions when necessary, including evidence processing, interviews, suspects interrogation, and documentation.
• Uses de-escalation techniques and physical force when necessary to contain threats or assaults.
• Provides escorts for patients, visitors, employees, and staff, including cash transfer escorts.
• Patrols BMC property, documents deficiencies or violations, and manages access control to ensure only authorized individuals and vehicles enter or exit.
• Provides information courteously and assists visitors and staff upon request.
• Performs Public Safety Desk Officer duties, coordinating activities during non-business hours, managing staff post assignments, and monitoring security systems.

Job Requirements

Education: HS Diploma required; A.S. in Criminal Justice or equivalent preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts.

Experience: 6 months to 1 year preferred security and customer service experience.

Knowledge and Skills: Detailed in responsibilities and duties.
