Position Summary
Provides services as a Public Safety Officer within BMC Department of Public Safety to provide police, security, parking, transportation, and control center services as necessary. Ensures consistent and safe service delivery throughout the medical center involving all members' institutions. Utilizes the medical center's core values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the medical center's mission.

Essential Responsibilities / Duties

1. Performs daily operational functions upon request by the Public Safety Supervisor or the Public Safety Desk Officer to meet BMC's operational needs efficiently.
2. Responds immediately and appropriately to all stat requests, emergency, contingency, or disaster situations, and calls assigned by the Public Safety Desk Officer.
3. Documents all incidents and actions taken, completes incident reports clearly and legibly, and submits them before shift end.
4. Utilizes strong customer service skills and community policing philosophies to develop relationships with the community.
5. Manages complex, emotionally charged situations to restore order, investigate activities, and take appropriate safety or police actions.
6. Investigates reports of suspicious activity, criminal activity, and hazards, taking steps to mitigate risks.
7. Uses effective de-escalation techniques and physical force when necessary.
8. Provides escorts to patients, visitors, employees, and staff, including cash transfer escorts.
9. Patrols property, documents deficiencies or violations, and manages parking and access control policies.
10. Performs Public Safety Desk Officer duties, coordinating activities, responding to incidents, maintaining documentation, and monitoring security systems.

Job Requirements

Education: HS Diploma required; A.S. in Criminal Justice or equivalent preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain ability to legally operate a motor vehicle in Massachusetts.

Experience: 6 months to 1 year preferred security and customer service experience.

Knowledge and Skills: Detailed in responsibilities and duties.
