NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF) seeks a Justice in Public Safety Project Counsel to implement legislative and policy reform at local, state, and federal levels, advancing community-based safety solutions and racial justice.

You will collaborate with litigators, policy staff, researchers, and community partners to shape integrated strategies. The role emphasizes First Amendment rights, police technology, and advocacy in Black communities.

Qualifikationen

• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the New York, District of Columbia, or Georgia Bar pursuant to office location (or eligibility to waive in).
• Four or more years of experience in legislative or policy advocacy at the federal, state, or local level related to policing or public safety, with particular emphasis on racial justice.
• Experience with community-based, public safety solutions preferred.
• Experience working with multiple and diverse stakeholders within both formal and informal coalition structures.
• Outstanding legal and policy research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Proactive self-starter with ability to work independently and on teams with people of diverse skills to advance holistic and integrated strategies.
• Flexible and problem-solving, with an ability to thrive in fast-changing environments, adapt to legislative and political shifts and emerging threats.
• Ability to stay organized and balance high-volume workload with multiple high-priority goals and competing demands across different jurisdictions.
• Respect for impacted people and the expertise and insight they bring to racial justice advocacy.
• A demonstrated passion for and commitment to civil rights and racial justice; and
• Ability to travel regularly.

Aufgaben

• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated strategies to advance the Project’s priorities.
• Develop and implement legislative and policy reform strategies at local, state, and/or federal levels.
• Conduct legal and factual research concerning the Project’s priorities.
• Develop and maintain LDF’s strategic role in coalitions, partnerships, and task forces.
• Lead drafting, publication, and dissemination of public testimony, research and briefs.
• Serve as a public thought leader on policing, public safety, and criminal justice issues.
• Represent LDF in media, at conferences, and in public venues.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Project leadership.
