Job summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is seeking a Statewide Interoperability Program Support Specialist to provide programming, project, coordination, and operational support for statewide interoperability efforts. The role supports SCIP implementation, governance, stakeholder engagement, and information management.

Open to current VDEM employees only, with the flexibility of two telework days per week and required regular onsite presence.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of program coordination, project management, public administration, emergency management, or a related field.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects, priorities, assignments, and deadlines.
• Ability to organize complex information and maintain accurate program records.
• Ability to independently research issues and prepare concise written summaries.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare professional correspondence and briefing documents.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state and local government officials, public safety professionals, stakeholders.
• Ability to coordinate meetings and stakeholder activities.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment with sensitive information.
• Ability to identify issues requiring management attention.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technologies.
• Ability to learn public safety terminology and interoperability concepts.
• Ability to work in both routine office environments and emergency operations environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide programming, project, coordination, and operational support to the Commonwealth's statewide interoperability program.
• Assist with SCIP implementation and governance activities.
• Coordinate statewide and regional governance activities and track interoperability initiatives.
• Engage stakeholders and develop and maintain program information.
• Support training, exercises, meetings, projects, and special initiatives.
• Coordinate communication among internal and external partners.
