Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is seeking a Public Safety Dispatcher to support its campus emergency communications and dispatch operations. The role involves handling emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and medical personnel, and maintaining accurate event records.
The ideal candidate has 2+ years in public safety dispatch and computer literacy, with preferred POST certification by end of probation. Hours are 3pm–11pm, 40 hours per week, on-site at MATC.

Under supervision of the Manager, Public Safety, answers emergency and non-emergency calls; dispatches resources in compliance with public safety and fire procedures; operates dispatch equipment and maintains records. Supervision received is general in nature where standard practices enables employee to perform independently referring unusual situations to the supervisor for decision or advice.
Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirements, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.
Required Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Preferred Education: College course work related to dispatching.
Required Experience: Two (2) years of experience in public safety and/or police or fire dispatching in a protection services or 911 center and two (2) years of experience involving public contact while performing multiple tasks and using computers.
Preferred Experience: More than two (2) years of relevant experience.
Specialty Skills:
Knowledge of Community resources.
Knowledge of cities (Mequon, West Allis, Oak Creek) and campus surrounding geography.
Ability to complete the 40 hour POST Public Safety dispatch Certification course completed by end of probationary period.
Subject to a criminal background and driving record check; a physical exam and an assessment of professional skills and a review of past employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, computers, and software applications.
Must have the ability to interpret and apply techniques, procedures and methods used in the operation of communications equipment.
Ability to interpret and apply codes, policies and procedures.
Ability to read and interpret street maps; communicate emergency situations; transcribe information obtained over the telephone or radio into computer dispatch system; react quickly and accurately in emergency situations; listen and talk while at the same time performing various additional tasks.
Perform duties effectively under pressure; make decisions and use independent judgments; monitor a variety of emergency situations at the same time.
Ability to write basic letters, memos, and reports; perform routine clerical duties using the computer and software applications.
Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
Ability to work any shift in a 24-hour period, holidays, weekends, scheduled and emergency overtime; be available for call back as required.
Ability to perform basic math computations.
Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain effective work relationships with peers, students, teachers, staff, representatives of outside agencies, educational institutions, and the general public.
Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication in work related activities.
Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific to position, including Microsoft Office Suite spreadsheets and the Internet.
Hours: This is a full-time, in-person position (40 hours per week), Monday through Friday. Standard work hours are 3pm - 11pm. Actual hours worked may vary based on departmental needs.
Salary Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity.
