Job summary

City of Bixby, OK seeks a Public Safety Communications Dispatcher to answer emergency and non‑emergency calls, dispatch to police, fire, animal control and EMS, and monitor video surveillance. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Oklahoma driver\'s license, and the ability to pass a drug screen and background check, plus strong computer and multi‑line phone system skills.

Shifts include weekends and holidays to cover 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Oklahoma driver\'s license required.
  • Must pass drug screening and background check.
  • Proficient with computers and multiple software programs and multi-line phone systems.
  • Ability to read, write, spell, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
  • Ability to multitask at a high level.
  • Ability to work varied shifts including weekends and holidays for 24/7 operation.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls and transfer as needed.
  • Dispatch calls to police, fire, animal control, and EMS.
  • Dispatch after-hours public works calls.
  • Run records checks (driver\'s licenses, criminal histories).
  • Enter and update NCIC files.
  • Monitor video surveillance.
  • Act as jailer providing supervision, meals, and hourly cell checks.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
