Job summary

The City of Davis is seeking a Public Safety Specialist to support police and social services by performing a broad range of non-sworn duties, including parking enforcement, code enforcement, evidence handling, and crime prevention activities.

You will assist with intake, reports, and coordination with partners, manage volunteers, maintain records, and serve as a liaison at community events. Applicants should be prepared for office and field work and able to work with diverse populations.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of operations and services of a comprehensive municipal law enforcement, public safety and/or social services agencies.
• Basic functions of the criminal justice system and court processes.
• Applicable federal, State, and local laws, rules and regulations pertaining to assigned areas of responsibility.
• Public relations and public speaking techniques.

Responsibilities

• Performs a diverse range of non-sworn duties in support of public safety, social services, and/or law enforcement operations.
• Prepares evidence for use in court cases; delivers and retrieves evidence to and from various offices, maintaining chain of custody; may provide court testimony.
• Conducts intake, documentation and proper cataloging of property and evidence and maintains the evidence room; coordinates transport or disposal as required.
• Responds to and investigates code enforcement complaints and enforces local ordinances and State codes; prepares violation notifications and assists with vehicle abatements.
