Job summary

The City of Auburn (AL) is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainer who will plan, coordinate, and lead training for the public safety communications team. You will work under the Telecommunicator Administrator to ensure new-hire onboarding and continuing education meets APCO and NENA standards.

Your role includes tracking certifications, conducting QA, and supervising staff when needed, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and efficient incident response.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in public safety communications.
• Certification within six months: CJIC and NCIC; Public Safety Telecommunicator I.
• Center Training Officer or Center Training Officer Instructor certifications preferred.
• Knowledge of APCO and NENA guidelines and city operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, lead, and maintain training for all new hires and the communication divisions continuing education program.
• Coordinate and maintain records of all training activities, certifications, and recertifications in accordance with APCO, NENA, and state standards.
• Conduct regular quality assurance and evaluation to ensure compliance with policies, protocols, and standards.
• Perform duties of a Public Safety Telecommunicator Supervisor when needed.
• Exercises direct supervision over assigned personnel.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.
