Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking an Animal Response Team Officer to protect and serve the public by enforcing state laws and local ordinances for the control, care, and protection of domestic and wild animals. The class works under the general supervision of the Animal Control Manager according to set procedures.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, background checks, a valid driver’s license, and willingness to work rotating shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• One year of full-time equivalent experience involving frequent public contact preferred.
• Prior animal handling experience preferred (veterinary assistant, kennel attendant, or animal control officer).
• State-mandated basic training for Animal Control Officer within 180 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Enforce state laws and local ordinances for animal control and protection.
• Represent the city professionally and provide testimony when required.
• Work under supervision of the Animal Control Manager according to established procedures.
