City of Richmond Animal Care and Control is seeking a dynamic Animal Control Officer to investigate complaints, pick up stray and dead animals, patrol for ordinance violations, and assist residents with animal concerns. The role requires humane handling, driving a City vehicle, and on-call evening/weekend work.

The incumbent will address citizen inquiries, educate on responsible pet ownership, and may be required to euthanize unhealthy animals when necessary.

Formación

• High school diploma or GED required (or equivalent).
• One year of experience handling animals and/or enforcing animal laws; equivalent combinations acceptable.

Responsabilidades

• Enforcing Virginia animal welfare laws and City codes to protect public health and safety.
• Investigating cruelty cases and coordinating with other City agencies as needed.
• Responding to aggressive animals and dangerous wildlife; providing humane care and medical treatment where appropriate.
• Administering vaccinations and medications, performing euthanasia when necessary.
• Preparing reports, testifying in court, and maintaining accurate records.
