Job summary

Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalent plus additional specialized education (law enforcement, code enforcement, animal science or related field).
• Three (3) years of job-related experience.
• State certification for Animal Control Officer, Euthanasia by Injection certification, Field Sedation Certification.

Responsibilities

• Responds to complaints regarding animals, ensuring timely response and follow-up.
• Protects animal welfare and enforces applicable laws, investigating cruelty to animals.
• Safeguards the community by investigating dangerous animals and seizing such animals.
• Seizes domestic animals running at large and assists citizens in adopting animals.
• Supports law enforcement and humane handling during evictions or gambling raids involving animals.
• Assists in prosecution and works with the Prosecutor regarding warrants or show cause hearings.
• Renders first aid and arranges medical attention for injured animals or people when necessary.
• Maintains licenses, registrations, incident reports, and other records; sells dog licenses and maintains computerized records.
