Sedgwick County is seeking an Animal Control Officer to protect the public from animal-related hazards and enforce animal codes. The role involves field duties, responding to calls, and education of residents.

Responsibilities include capturing animals, transporting them to the shelter, and maintaining records. The position requires a high school diploma, animal handling experience, and completion of FEMA courses within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of humane animal handling experience.
• One year of public interaction with customers.
• Must complete FEMA IS-100, IS-200, and IS-700 courses within 30 days of employment.
• Must have or complete animal and basic human first aid and CPR/AED training within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Capture animals running at large in Sedgwick County.
• Transport animals to the shelter for identification and admission.
• Prepare and maintain admission records for animals admitted to Wichita Animal Shelter.
• Return owned animals to residents when applicable.
• Contain stray livestock and determine ownership; seize or transport as needed.
• Provide emergency medical care to injured animals and transport to vet facilities.
• Enforce county animal codes with warnings and citations.
• Attend court hearings and testify for violations of county animal codes.
• Educate the public on county animal code ordinances and ownership.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for animal emergencies.
