American University is seeking Public Safety Aides (PSAs) to support Parking & Commuter Services. This part-time role offers hands-on campus exposure, event staffing, and interaction with university administrators.

Ideal for students pursuing future careers in sustainability, transportation, or security services. Responsibilities include enforcing campus parking policies, delivering friendly service to students and guests, and coordinating with supervisors during events.

Responsibilities

• Enforce parking policies on all campus properties.
• Provide customer service to all campus community members and guests.
• Maintain consistent communication with supervisors via radio and phone.
• Positively represent the PSA program, the Office of Parking and Commuter Services, the AU Police Department, and the University.
• Provide support to the AU Police Department when necessary, often during Move-In/Commencement events.
• Follow PSA policies and procedures and the directions of supervisory staff.

Job Description:

Summary: Public Safety Aides (PSAs) assist the Office of Parking &Commuter Services by conducting parking enforcement patrols, officework, traffic direction, staffing for special events, and otherexciting opportunities. This is an exceptional opportunity for astudent to familiarize themselves with campus, establish contactwith university administrators, and meet high-profile individuals.It is also an excellent starting point for students interested incareers in sustainability, transportation, and securityservices.

Essential Functions:

• Enforce parking policies on all campus properties.
• Provide customer service to all campus community members andguests.
• Maintain consistent communication with supervisors via radioand phone.
• Positively represent the PSA program, the Office of Parking andCommuter Services, the American University Police Department, andthe University as a whole.
• Provide support to the American University Police Departmentwhen necessary, often during special events such as Commencement orMove-In.
• Follow PSA policies/procedures and the directions ofsupervisory staff.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

• Part-time.
• 9 - 15 hours per week.

Salary Range:

• $18.40 - $20.15 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

• Must have an active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Successfully complete all new hire paperwork and pass initialtraining.
• Incoming or current AU student.
• Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. University Safety & SecurityServices reserves the right to review students’ academic andjudicial records.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Experience with iPhone-based applications and handheldradios.
• Ability to handle challenging situations.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

• More hours are available with promotion.
• Availability for Move-In, Move-Out, & CommencementActivities, with early move-in and late move-out available foron-campus residents.
• Availability during the hours of 8 am - 10 pm, weekdays andweekends.
