Job description

Position Title:

The Event AV Support Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, and disassembly of audio, video, lighting, and projection systems for live events. This position ensures optimal technical performance, conducts sound checks, troubleshoots equipment/system issues in real time, and collaborates effectively with clients and MTHS staff in a team environment to achieve desired production outcomes.

Representative Duties

Setup and operation of audio and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, lighting, and AV control interfaces to deliver a variety of multimedia products for live streaming, video conferencing, and digital distribution.

Create documentation, provide training, and troubleshoot technical issues in real-time for on premise, virtual, and hybrid events, meetings, and classes for various internal and external audiences.

Maintain inventory, perform routine maintenance and upgrades to ensure all equipment functions optimally.

C oordinate pre-production activities which involve interacting with clients, operating/supporting all video and audio equipment, and setting up for events including staging when needed.

Transport and set up portable equipment, including lighting, and audio.

Document, train, support, and host events, meetings, and training.

Edit, organize, and publish accessible multimedia content for multiple platforms.

Evaluate and purchase audio-visual and IT equipment.

Perform video postproduction tasks, which include reviewing footage, applying edits, adding graphics, special effects, music, sound design, and color treatment in accordance with final multimedia production concept and WCAG 2.1 level AA accessibility guidelines.

Ensure any required postproduction digital content is indexed/backed up according to state policies and is easily accessible.

Knowledge of

Audio and video production techniques and equipment operation.

Conferencing software, social media platforms, and web publishing.

Skills in

Operation in the use of AV equipment and software such as Zoom, Teams, Office 365, Planning Pod, Adobe Creative Suite, and Epiphan Pearl.

Projectors, video transmission, audio signal flow, and lighting.

Communication, collaboration, problem solving, and time management.

Ability to

Communicate complex ideas clearly, concisely, and respectfully in plain language both orally and in writing.

Be dependable and reliable, showing up for work on time and executing tasks within the designated timeframe.

Learn new systems and processes, as well as receive feedback to improve the customer experience.

Education

Associate degree in information technology, video production or related field.

Experience

Two years of relevant experience supporting multimedia productions and events.

Other combinations of education or experience may be substituted including certifications such as CTS or ANP through AVIXA.

May require 8 or more hours a day working with audio visual/IT equipment.

May require more than a 40-hour work week.

May work weekends or after hours to assist with events and perform systems upgrades, or changes.

May require on-call work to support events.

May require lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

May require performing tasks at elevated heights, including the use of ladders or other access equipment.

May require frequent contact with the public.

Hours of Operation

The Montana Heritage Center operates seven days a week and is open all holidays except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

As an employee of the Montana Historical Society your work hours may fall outside the regular Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule.
