Job summary

City of Ventura seeks a customer service-oriented purchasing professional to join the Finance Department as a Buyer or Senior Buyer. The role focuses on procuring supplies, equipment, and services, with emphasis on contract development, negotiation, and administration.

You will review requisitions, develop bid specs, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local procurement rules while monitoring vendor performance and contract renewals.

Qualifications

• Minimum:Buyer — two years of college in business or related field with two years of volume purchasing experience.
• Senior Buyer — bachelor's degree in business/public administration or related field plus two years of Buyer experience or three years of volume purchasing, including public agency experience.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate vendor contracts within assigned commodities and federal guidance.
• Review requisitions for accuracy and develop bid specifications.
• Prepare federally compliant solicitations, bids, and proposals with terms and conditions.
