Job summary

The City of Fremont is seeking a qualified Buyer in its Finance Department to manage and expedite procurement of materials, supplies and equipment for all city departments in compliance with state and local regulations.

Under general supervision, the Buyer coordinates purchasing activities, prepares bid documents, performs market research, and ensures accurate records in the city’s financial management system. A PM/CPB certification is desired; travel within city limits is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma with college coursework in accounting or public administration.
• Three years of purchasing and expediting experience.
• Experience developing formal specifications and sources of supply.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate procurement activities with city departments.
• Maintain procurement data in the City’s financial management system.
• Prepare informal RFQs, and formal bids and RFPs.
• Develop detailed specifications for goods and services.
• Identify prospective suppliers and vendors.
