Job summary

The City of Aurora is seeking an Events Coordinator within the Parks, Recreation and Open Space (PROS) Department. You will plan, coordinate, and evaluate community events, oversee budgets, permits, and vendor coordination, and collaborate with marketing for promotion.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree in event management or related field and 3+ years of large-scale events; public sector experience and certification (CSEP) are highly valued. A Colorado Driver’s License is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in event management, recreation, or a directly related field or equivate.
  • Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in special events.
  • Preferred: 3 years of large-scale event experience; sponsorship sales and sponsorship relations.
  • Public sector/government environment preferred; Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP).
  • Event management software such as Eventeny; knowledge of budgeting and permits.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, administers, and evaluates city special events and coordinates and serves in lead and support roles for other events as assigned.
  • Arranges all aspects of public special events (500 to 6,000 attendees) including: budgeting, site mapping, security, vendor coordination, sponsorships, signage, and equipment.
  • Coordinates with marketing to fulfill promotion needs: sponsorship deliverables, event signage, and website.
  • Coordinates event volunteers; defines roles and assigns tasks.
  • Establishes relationships with sponsors, local organizations, and businesses for events.
  • Performs administrative tasks: contracts, permits, budgeting records, reports.
  • May require operation of a motor vehicle and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
