***This position is contingent upon contract award and will be located onsite in the southeast, southwest, or central United States. Travel will likely be required.***
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections to prevent or eliminate environmental and sanitation health hazards as directed; may include regulating food facilities, drinking water programs (ROWPU & bottled water), receipt and storage of goods, and chemical latrines, following current SOPs; duties may vary.
- Enforce health and safety laws and regulations.
- Prepare and maintain inspection records; gather evidence and recommend corrective actions.
- Update and maintain files, records, and documents; compile and synthesize data; prepare reports as required.
- Present community outreach programs; educate at-risk populations regarding services.
- Respond to public health complaints; collaborate with stakeholders; recommend corrective actions; issue memos within scope.
- Assist with influenza vaccination outreach and campaigns.
- Respond to outbreaks of communicable diseases and foodborne illnesses; apply epidemiological methods; provide consultations and recommendations.
- Refer issues beyond scope to supervisor; track until resolution.
- Address public health concerns; educate stakeholders.
- Record and maintain patient information per protocols and the Privacy Act.
- Identify and record signs and symptoms of physical and mental conditions.
- Exercise initiative, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making daily.
- Make independent judgments and prioritize workload.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited public health program, associate degree, or U.S. Military technical training in fields like 4E0X1, 68R, 68S, or HM-8432.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Public Administration, or related field preferred.
- At least one year of experience inspecting food and drink establishments, with knowledge of federal laws and regulations related to food safety.
- Registered Sanitarian (RS) credential preferred.
- Complete ServSafe Instructor and Proctor courses and exams or equivalent before deployment.
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Knowledge of sanitation practices, laws, and regulations governing the food industry.
- Knowledge of proper food handling, sanitation, and abnormality recognition.
- Experience with quality control or laboratory testing in relevant industries.
- Ability to multitask, be detail-oriented, organized, and communicate effectively.
- Proficiency with computers and MS Office.
- Flexibility to adapt to operational changes and shift requirements.
- Healthcare providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical patient care experience of at least 6 months in the past year.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
- Work is typically performed in an interior/office environment.
- Sitting and standing for prolonged periods are involved.
