Job summary

The State of Maryland is seeking a clinical scientist in Baltimore within the Maryland Department of Health to perform accessioning, specimen preparation, and microbiological testing as part of the Division of Microbiology. This role supports CLIA, CDC and COMAR regulations for public health specimens.

Responsibilities include media preparation, QA/QC monitoring, and interpretation and reporting of test results to protect and promote community health in Maryland.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in listed disciplines from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of experience in a chemistry laboratory performing analytical tests on environmental, biological or multi-matrix samples or in a medical/public health lab performing diagnostic/public health testing on human specimens.
• Notes: substitution of graduate education at 30 credit hours per year of experience; substitution of military service health science roles allowed.

Responsibilities

• Accessioning and specimen preparation.
• Perform microbiological testing involving diverse assays.
• Prepare and distribute microbiological media.
• QA/QC monitoring and reporting of test results.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Medical Technology, Pharmacy or Zoology
