Job summary

The Maryland Department of Health is seeking a full-performance laboratory scientist based in Baltimore to analyze and report test results on environmental and food samples using approved FDA, EPA, CDC, and Standard methods as part of public health initiatives.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a life science and 2 years of relevant laboratory experience, plus familiarity with food testing methods and ISO 17025 quality systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Two years of experience in chemistry laboratory performing analytical tests on environmental/biological samples, OR two years in medical/public health laboratory performing diagnostic testing.
• Experience with FDA and AOAC-approved food testing methods.
• Experience with food testing equipment such as ABI 7500 Real-Time PCR system, Bruker Biotyper MALDI-TOF, or Panther Fusion Plus
• Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025-accredited quality assurance systems and laboratory quality standards

Responsibilities

• Perform, analyze, interpret, and report test results on environmental and food samples.
• Adhere to approved FDA, EPA, CDC, and Standard methods.
• Contribute to public health initiatives to protect Maryland residents.
