Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a dependable Stock Worker to support inventory operations across agency facilities in New York City. The role reports to the Procurement and Inventory Supervisor and involves receiving, storing, counting, and distributing materials, equipment, and tools for Plant Operations.

Regular travel between inventory and facility locations is required, with focus on accuracy, safety, and efficient distribution to staff and sites.

Qualifications

• No formal education or experience requirements for this position.
• Must have a valid New York State driver’s license and maintain it for the duration of employment.
• Experience in stockroom, warehouse, facilities, maintenance, or inventory environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive, unpack, count, inspect, store, and distribute materials, supplies, equipment, and tools.
• Check deliveries against purchase orders, packing slips, or invoices; report shortages or discrepancies.
• Pick and prepare materials for distribution to Plant Operations staff and facilities.
• Load and unload supplies and equipment at storage facilities and delivery locations.
• Deliver and transfer materials and supplies for distribution to Plant Operations staff and facilities.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with physical and perpetual inventory counts.
• Ensure stockrooms are clean, safe, organized, and properly maintained.
• Label, organize, and store inventory for easy location and accountability.
• Assist with tracking receipt, issuance, transfer, and disposition of inventory.
• Safely operate carts and material-handling equipment.
• Coordinate with the Procurement and Inventory Supervisor regarding inventory needs and shortages.
• Ensure chemical supplies are received, labeled, stored, and organized safely.
• Maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemical products in inventory.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the Stock Worker civil service title.
