Job summary

The American Heart Association’s internship in Omaha, NE offers a 20-25 hour per week role with hybrid in-office and community events. The position pays $23.00 per hour and runs from 1/25/27 to 5/7/27, focusing on CPR awareness, outreach, and program support.

Interns will gain hands-on experience in a nonprofit health organization, developing skills in public health communication, event coordination, and research, while contributing to Life’s Essential 8 programs and community impact.

Qualifications

• Seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, community health, advocacy or related field.
• Experience with public speaking and engaging with the community in group settings and 1 on 1.
• Willingness to travel to local community events and meetings.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred, not required.
• Knowledge of CPR preferred.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Engage communities and companies by providing CPR awareness, education, or training.
• Assist with preparing organizations to respond to cardiac emergencies with AED access and CPR training policies.
• Support communication of local impact stories and Nation of Lifesavers initiatives.
• Identify and develop impact stories through research and interviews for online or offline sharing.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Create and manage a volunteer database and communications; respond to inquiries with opportunities.
• Attend meetings and events such as health fairs and community outreach activities.
