Job summary

American Heart Association offers a hands‑on Internship Program for college students interested in nonprofit health work. The role supports community health initiatives, nutrition security, and health education strategies to prevent cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

You will gain practical skills in program evaluation, outreach, and communications while working in a hybrid setup across Madison or Milwaukee, WI, and surrounding areas.

Qualifications

• Seniors or graduate students pursuing public health, community health, advocacy, or related degree programs.
• Ability to research health topics and translate findings into actionable guidance.
• Knowledge of local healthcare systems is a plus.
• Experience with community engagement and health initiatives.
• Willingness to travel to local events and meetings.
• Spanish bilingualism preferred but not required.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint; Canva knowledge helpful.
• Required equipment: reliable Wi‑Fi and transportation.
• Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M‑F 9am‑5pm.

Responsibilities

• Assist in organizing and implementing health initiatives and programs in communities.
• Support work around hypertension control, nutrition security, and tobacco/vaping.
• Assist with internal program evaluations and communicate impact.
• Identify impact stories through research and interviews for sharing.
• Create and manage a volunteer database and respond to inquiries.
• Create and review resources such as playbooks for community health needs.
• Explore local organizations aligned with priority issues for collaboration.
• Assist in planning trainings and community impact meetings.
• Attend health fairs and events as needed, including CPR demonstrations.
