Job summary

The American Heart Association in Omaha, NE is offering a 20–25 hour per week internship with a hybrid in-office and community events schedule. The position pays $23 per hour and runs from early September to mid-December 2026.

Ideal candidates are public health or related students (seniors or grads) with strong public speaking and community engagement skills, and proficiency in MS Office. Spanish is a plus, and reliable transport is required.

Qualifications

• Senior or graduate student in public health, community health, advocacy or related field.
• Experience with public speaking and engaging with the community.
• Willingness to travel to local events and meetings.
• Spanish language preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of CPR is a plus; strong communication skills in writing and speaking.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint.
• Reliable Wi‑Fi and transportation are required.
• Minimum availability of 20 hrs/week, Mon–Fri 9am–5pm.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Engage companies and community organizations with CPR awareness, education or training.
• Help prepare groups to respond to sudden cardiac arrest with AED access and CPR policies.
• Communicate the impact of local work to the community impact team.
• Identify impact stories through research and interviews and develop communication pieces.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Create and manage a volunteer database and respond to inquiries about opportunities.
• Attend meetings and health fairs and assist with Life’s Essential 8 presentations.
• Support the Omaha office with development campaigns and events.
