Job summary

Sandoval County is seeking a dedicated Public Health and Community Risk Reduction Captain to lead medical care coordination, risk reduction, and fire safety outreach across the county. The role interfaces with EMS partners, hospitals, and prevention specialists to minimize medical and fire risks for residents.

The ideal candidate has extensive Fire/Rescue and EMS experience, a relevant associate degree, and multiple certifications; a strong background in tribal and rural community engagement is

Qualifications

• Associate degree plus 5 years Fire/Rescue and EMS experience or 7 years total experience.
• Must meet multiple certifications including NM EMT-Paramedic and IFSAC/ProBoard Fire Instructor I within 6 months of hire.
• Requires Fire Officer I within 6 months and Company Officer Taskbook within 6 months.
• Public health and safety outreach knowledge and MIH/risk reduction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify high-risk medical conditions and coordinate with primary care physicians on treatment and wellness plans.
• Coordinate medical care options for chronic/complex conditions with community groups and partners.
• Assist Fire Chief with training, prevention, and EMS program goals and budgets.
• Operate within ICS on fires, EMS scenes, rescue, and prevention operations; potentially assume command when needed.
• Maintain training records, reports, and coordination with regional Public Health personnel.
