Job summary

Florida Department of Health in Duval County is seeking an OPS Environmental Specialist II to protect, promote and improve the health of residents through field inspections, safety enforcement, and permit management.

The role requires knowledge of state statutes, collaboration with teams, data entry into the Environmental Health Database, and flexibility to respond to emergencies and outdoor work conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Natural, Physical, environmental or life science or with at least 30 semester hours in a natural, physical or environmental science.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willing to work independently and in remote areas.
• Willing and able to work outdoors in the heat and inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, re-inspect, and investigate complaints at facilities.
• Review and approve plans for new construction and permit issuance.
• Maintain the Environmental Health Database and related program files.
• Perform food hygiene inspections and other duties as needed, including disaster-related work.
