Job summary

The City of Worcester is seeking a Deputy Director of Public Health for the Public Health Division within the Office of Health and Human Services. Under the Director, the Deputy provides day-to-day operational leadership to ensure programs are delivered effectively, equitably, and in compliance with laws and policies.

Responsibilities include budget planning, staff supervision, program management, and coordination with City departments on procurement and grants.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business/public administration, health administration, public health, or related field.
• Five (5) years of related work experience in business/public administration, public health or a related field.
• Experience leading operations in public health, healthcare, human services, or government.
• Experience with budgeting and/or operational planning.
• Experience supervising staff
• Experience in working with diverse communities

Responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation and administration of the annual operating budget in partnership with the Director.
• Oversee the management of programs, services and staff including personnel functions (i.e. employee recruitment, discipline and training).
• Respond to public health emergencies within the City.
• Lead daily operations across the division to support consistent, high-quality public service delivery.
• Assist in developing and maintaining a strategic planning process that establishes operational goals, work plans, milestones, and performance measures aligned with division priorities.
