DEPT OF HEALTH/MENTAL HYGIENE in Queens, NY is seeking a skilled CITY RESEARCH SCIENTIST to design and manage data pipelines supporting real-time and batch data processing for public health modernization. You will collaborate with data stewards and units to translate informatics needs into scalable solutions.

The role requires 4+ years in data engineering, mastery of health data standards (HL7/FHIR), and experience with cloud platforms and big data tools.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering.
• Experience modeling population health outcomes, infectious disease transmission, or health systems operations.
• Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets, including municipal data.
• Knowledge of statistical inference, uncertainty quantification, and validation techniques for simulations.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop integrated data pipelines enabling data exchange, analysis, surveillance, and reporting.
• Partner with public health data stewards to capture health informatics data needs.
• Integrate health data standards into the data architecture.
• Build and maintain scalable, secure pipelines for real-time and batch ingestion.
• Advise on data technologies and tools to strengthen analytics and data science capabilities.
• Uphold data governance, quality, and security best practices per regulations.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to align infrastructure with diverse unit needs.
