Qualifications

  • Five years' experience in management with knowledge in at least one of the following areas: building construction, building, fire or housing inspections, plumbing, electrical or mechanical trades, fire protection, elevators or property maintenance.
  • Knowledge of city codes and private waste collection enforcement.
  • Certification or specialized training related to environmental health or inspections preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise staff by preparing reports, assigning duties, coordinating activities and evaluating personnel.
  • Educate and enforce City Code on private waste collection; notify property owners and issue citations.
  • Investigate complaints related to private waste collection in the City of Norfolk.
  • Investigate vector control issues and issue notices as needed.
  • Assist with related Environmental Health programs.
  • Perform mosquito and rodent abatement as needed.
