Public Health Adviser (School Health) - Job Description

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Public Health Adviser (School Health). This role involves supporting the division's efforts to promote health and well-being among NYC families and children.

Division/Program Description

The Division of Family and Child Health (DFCH) focuses on programs and policies that support physical and socio-emotional health, health equity, and social justice. The division includes the Bureau of Maternal Infant and Reproductive Health, the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Office of School Health, and the Bureau of Administration.

Responsibilities
  1. Collect and transmit medical records from schools to the Central Health office.
  2. Create and update school health records.
  3. Establish and maintain relationships with school personnel.
  4. Ensure proper functioning of students' equipment and medication storage.
  5. Transcribe medical information and assist students with medication management.
  6. Document observations on medication logs and medical records.
  7. Perform basic first aid.
  8. Participate in agency-wide emergency preparedness activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  1. Baccalaureate degree with 12 semester credits in health-related fields.
  2. Baccalaureate degree plus six months of relevant health promotion or disease prevention experience.
  3. High school diploma or equivalent with four years of relevant experience.
  4. Equivalent education and experience.
Additional Requirements

Experience requirements vary for Assignment Level II, including at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser Level I or equivalent experience.
