Job summary

The City of Olathe is seeking a dedicated Custodian to keep public spaces clean and welcoming across multiple city facilities, including a community center and libraries. You will wipe surfaces, tidy areas, and handle spill cleanups, while also assisting with event setup and teardown to meet venue requirements.

Experience in custodial work is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Experience: Previous custodial experience preferred.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Relevant experience may be substituted for education.
• A valid driver’s license and favorable driving record are required.
• Must be proficient in reading and speaking basic English to communicate effectively and read chemical labels.

Responsibilities

• Uses appropriate equipment, chemicals and PPE to complete custodial services.
• Cleans and sanitizes buildings and fixtures.
• Participates in special cleaning projects.
• Replenishes consumables such as paper towels and toilet paper.
• Repairs or replaces dispensers as needed.
• Disposes of waste and trash.
• Gathers and sorts recyclable materials per procedures.
• Assists in setting up and tearing down furnishings for special events.
• Performs light maintenance including replacement of bulbs and hanging pictures.
• Opens and secures buildings per procedures.
• Observes and reports security issues.
