Job summary

EMC Insurance Companies is seeking a seasoned leader to own Public Entity underwriting strategy, partner with underwriting, claims, risk improvement and actuarial teams, and guide complex decisions. Drive profitable growth and shape product direction while mentoring staff and coordinating across business units.

You will influence market strategy, oversee portfolio performance, and lead initiatives that capitalize on opportunities in a dynamic risk landscape.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business or insurance.
Minimum 10 years commercial property and casualty underwriting experience.
At least 3 years in staff underwriting within the segment.
Insurance designations such as AU, CIC, or CPCU preferred.

Responsibilities

Serve as enterprise SME for the Public Entity segment, guiding underwriting direction.
Lead development and execution of segment strategies and profitability initiatives.
Oversee portfolio performance, including P&L management and growth plans.
Analyze premium, loss, and market data to identify trends and opportunities.
Develop underwriting best practices and guidance across the organization.
Evaluate market opportunities and recommend enhancements and coverage changes.
Draft policy language to support evolving market needs.
Collaborate with Claims, Risk Improvement, Actuarial and others to meet objectives.
Provide guidance on complex underwriting risks, pricing, limits, and acceptability.
Review large accounts and determine facultative reinsurance needs; support QA.
Lead or participate in strategic projects, vendor relations, and product implementation.
Develop underwriting training and mentoring for team members.
Represent EMC at industry events and thought leadership activities.
