Job summary

Liberty Mutual Insurance seeks an experienced underwriting leader for the Public Entity and Education portfolio in Chicago. You will blend technical underwriting, market insight, and strong agent/broker relationships to drive profitable growth and portfolio performance.

You will mentor underwriters and analysts, collaborate with internal partners on initiatives, and influence underwriting strategy in a dynamic, market-facing role.

Qualifications

• Reviews, evaluates, and underwrites new and renewal business to determine premium and terms, within guidelines.
• Builds and maintains relationships with agents and brokers to market products and grow the book.
• Coaches and develops underwriters and analysts, sharing expertise to improve talent.
• Ensures sound documentation reflecting compliance with regulations and authority limits.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new and renewal business, determine premium and terms, and present proposals to agents/brokers.
• Develop and maintain market presence with agents/brokers to drive profitable growth.
• Analyze portfolio performance and implement targeted marketing to improve market share and retention.
• Document underwriting decisions clearly and maintain high-quality files.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to underwriting staff and collaborate with leadership on standards.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve underwriting efficiency.
