Job summary

Salt Lake County seeks a Budget and Policy Analyst to support the Council with analytical budgeting, accounting, and financial operations. The role requires timely, accurate, nonpartisan information and clear written and oral communication of policy options and their implications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related fields plus at least five years of related experience; OR equivalent education/experience.
• Ideal candidate has a master’s degree; thinks on one’s feet; anticipates questions; exhibits quantitative and software skills; and shows curiosity about public policy as it relates to county residents.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the county-wide budget with county elected officials and departments; address budget issues including monthly expenditures and revenue shortfalls.
• Explain financial options and their implications on county policies or fiscal staff requests.
• Prepare and present budget proposals and budget justification information.
• Prepare financial reports and revenue/expenditure projections; analyze variances against the adopted budget.
• Monitor countywide revenues and expenditures; participate in strategic planning.
