Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking a Budget and Policy Analyst to support the Council with financial analysis, budgeting, and policy evaluation. The role requires communicating complex financial information clearly and providing nonpartisan advice to inform decisions.

The analyst will analyze the county budget, coordinate with departments, and help implement performance-based budgeting measures, reports, and recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other closely related fields, plus at least five (5) years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
• Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
• Ability to think on one’s feet, respond to questions, and demonstrate quantitative and software skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the county-wide budget with county elected officials and departments to address budget issues.
• Explain financial options and their implications on policies and staff analyses.
• Prepare and present final budget proposals to the SLCO Council.
• Prepare revenue and expenditure projections and analyze variances.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to improve the Performance-Based Budgeting process.
• Deliver presentations and support staff on budgets and policy work.
