Job summary

State of Washington is seeking a Public Benefits Supervisor to lead a team at the Renton Community Services Office (CSO) within the DSHS ESA, Community Services Division. This in-office role focuses on supervising Public Benefits Specialists, ensuring accurate determinations for food, cash, and medical programs, and building strategic partnerships with agencies and community partners.

Qualifications

• Experience with WorkFirst program and public benefits eligibility.
• Strong supervision, coaching, and performance management.
• Ability to communicate policies clearly to staff.
• Knowledge of WAC, RCW, and federal Medicaid law.
• Experience building partnerships with community colleges and agencies.
• Identify barriers and promote equity in benefits access.
• Proficiency with internal software such as ACES, ACES Online, Barcode, HPF.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a unit of Public Benefits Specialists and lead workers.
• Review case decisions and ensure accurate documentation.
• Set workload standards and track reports to maintain timeliness of cases.
• Train new staff using the agency's training program and explain policies.
• Coach staff on customer service, referrals, and eligibility.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations and develop improvement plans.
• Assist customers applying for Apple Health via HPF system.
• Hire new staff and administer collective bargaining terms.
• Build partnerships with community organizations and colleges.
• Audit case records for accuracy and compliance with rules.
