Job summary

SKT, Inc. seeks a Public Affairs and Outreach Communication Analyst to plan, coordinate, and analyze external outreach for LANL cleanup programs. You will prepare presentations, manage public meetings, and tailor digital content for two EM‑LA public websites, aligning messaging with DOE policies.

You will edit technical documents, develop media packages, and interact with DOE EM and NNMCAB to ensure accessible, accurate communication of program objectives and challenges.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, or related field required. Will consider experience in lieu of degree (Two (2) years of experience for each year of education).
• Minimum Six (6) years’ experience is required (PLUS either degree or replacement experience).
• Demonstrated experience developing, managing, and enhancing website content is required.
• Position requires demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and maintaining interactive websites that link and present information for a wide range of data sources.
• Ability to utilize Web development and maintenance programs such as Drupal, DreamWeaver, Mapbox, or similar applications is preferred.

Job description

The Public Affairs and Outreach Communication Analyst will provide planning, coordination, and analysis functions to ensure presentations, stakeholder briefings, public meetings, and outreach interactions are appropriate and effective. Services include planning, scheduling, conducting, and responding to external interactions and queries related to program performance and technical issues related to cleanup of historical contamination and legacy effects of nuclear weapons development and research at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The Public Affairs and Outreach Communication Analyst will evaluate public and external stakeholder interest in environmental remediation program initiatives and elements, and develop media packages, presentations, communications materials and other initiatives to understand how the public and interested groups view the cleanup program and support its efforts. This position requires regular interactions with senior DOE Environmental Management Los Alamos (EM‑LA) federal staff and contractors to ensure messaging aligns with National policies and priorities, and includes updates and reports related to program success and challenges. The Public Affairs and Outreach Communication Analyst will tailor digital media content, architecture, and functionality for two public websites that present EM‑LA programs. This position will provide key expertise and direction e on updates for the EM‑LA program website and the Northern New Mexico Citizens’ Advisory Board (NNMCAB) website in alignment with DOE EM Headquarters to make them more informative and interactive to external audiences, and to more effectively highlight specific campaign accomplishments, announcements, press releases, educational resources, etc.

This position will work directly with senior Federal Program and senior EM‑LA Public Affairs personnel to anticipate public reactions to program challenges and complications to implement a clear and effective communication strategy for “staying ahead” of the issue and any consequences. The response may include media holding statements, FAQs, fact sheets, press releases, and media inquiry follow up, and orchestration of technical expert presentations to explain root causes and steps to address or mitigate. This response planning includes interactions and comment disposition with the DOE Communications and External Affairs Office in Washington, DC, and regularly involves special knowledge and experience of media personnel who may not be supportive of the DOE or defense programs that created the legacy waste at Los Alamos.

In addition to public affairs and outreach responsibilities, the position provides technical editing and writing support to ensure all program documents, presentations, correspondence, and public-facing materials are accurate, clearly written, and aligned with DOE and EM‑LA standards. This includes reviewing and refining technical content for clarity and consistency, coordinating with subject matter experts to validate information, and ensuring all materials meet required formatting, quality, and controlled‑document requirements. The Analyst maintains revision histories, supports document workflows, and ensures content is accessible and understandable to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

A sample of duties includes but is not limited to:

• Review ongoing cleanup program performance to identify progress, accomplishments, and significant changes/impacts to the EM‑LA mission.
• Develop communication plans, presentations and other communications materials so they present program progress and technical challenges in a way that is accessible and understandable to the lay public.
• Develop and coordinate review of presentations and media response packages with program experts and managers.
• Coordinate formal review and comment incorporation to ensure messaging is consistent and constructive to DOE EM.
• Develop project summaries, status updates, and responses for media inquiries and routine communications reports for DOE EM Headquarters.
• Maintain, expand, and update website content to describe program objectives, goals, accomplishments, and challenges.
• Develop and manage social media content in coordination with DOE EM Headquarters and cleanup contractors.
• Coordinate with cleanup contractor on photography or arrange for photographer, audio/visual equipment, and equipment technician, for all meetings, as needed.
• Develop video content from public meetings to use for EM‑LA and NNMCAB websites. Coordinate with cleanup contractor to develop video of field operations for multiple uses.
• Edit and proofread technical documents, reports, assessments, plans, procedures, and correspondence for grammar, format, accuracy, and clarity.
