Job summary

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Public Affairs Liaison to serve as a strategic advisor and communications liaison to the Chief of Police, coordinating the Department’s communications with City leaders and key stakeholders.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex public safety matters into clear, timely communications while maintaining alignment with priorities.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of strategic communications, crisis communications, media relations, and public relations.
• Knowledge of municipal government operations and City Council processes.
• Ability to communicate clearly, write and coordinate with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison between the Chief of Police and City Council/Manager’s Office, ensuring timely information and alignment with priorities.
• Coordinate responses to inquiries, requests for information, and constituent concerns with leadership.
• Lead crisis communications planning and response for critical incidents and sensitive issues.
• Develop timely, accurate messaging during incidents and coordinate with City leadership and stakeholders.
• Advise on crisis communications strategies, stakeholder notifications, and reputational risk.
