Job summary

Publix Super Markets, Inc. technology team is seeking a Service/Installation Technician to provide IT hardware support for Publix stores in the southeastern Birmingham, AL area.

You will install, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on desktop computers, servers, printers, POS systems, barcode scanners, weighing devices, and networking equipment, with on-site store visits. This hybrid, full-time role includes day shifts, after-hours on-call rotations, weekend work as required, and a Year

• Associate degree in information technology or equivalent experience.
• 1+ year of PC/Technical support experience; basic IT hardware knowledge.
• Basic understanding of Windows OS.
• Basic understanding of thermal and laser printing.
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Driver license with clean driving record.
• Willing to work variable shifts including overnights.
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs and climb ladders.
• Able to work in confined spaces and use hand/power tools.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and preventive maintenance of IT hardware in Publix stores (desktops, servers, printers, POS, barcode scanners, weighing devices, networking).
• Support Publix retail stores through on-site visits.
• Travel between store locations to perform tasks.
• Work predominantly 8:00–16:30, Monday–Friday; participate in after-hours on-call rotation.
• May be required to work rotating weekends and holidays; augment support in other areas if needed.

Position Overview

The Publix Technology Services (PTS) Service/Installation (hybrid) Technician will provide IT technical support for the southeastern Birmingham, AL area to primarily include installation, and repair and preventive maintenance of IT hardware in Publix retail stores, but also the installation and lifecycle of IT hardware.

Your Impact

• Perform installation, repair, and preventive maintenance of IT hardware including:

  • Laser and thermal printers

• Support Publix retail stores through on-site visits
• Travel between store locations to perform technical tasks
• Complete majority of work between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
• Participate in after-hours on-call rotation
• Required to work rotating weekends
• May be required to work holidays, as needed
• Augment support in other geographic areas when required

Required Qualifications

• Candidate must live in the Sylacauga to southeastern Birmingham, AL area, or must be willing to relocate there upon acceptance of the position
• Associate degree in information technology, or equivalent technical experience
• 1+ year of PC/Technical support experienceBasic understanding of IT hardware and industry standards
• Basic understanding of Windows Operating Systems
• Basic understanding of thermal and laser printing
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Cable management and troubleshooting skills
• Computer and electronic equipment installation skills
• Must be at least 20 years of age
• Must have a valid driver license and maintain an excellent driving record
• Work a variable shift, based on demands of current projects. Shifts will include overnight, evening, early morning, and/or daytime work, depending on the task
• Ability to lift to 75 lbs.
• Ability to climb and work on a ladder
• Ability to crouch, kneel and work in confined areas for extended periods
• Ability to use hand and power tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in the field of electronics or Computer Science, such as:
  • Cisco Certification
  • A+ Certification
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
  • HP Certification
  • Lexmark Certification
• 3+ years of PC/Technical support experience
• Basic understanding of Active Directory
• Experience using problem reporting and ticketing systems
• Understanding of the Publix retail environment

Year End Bonus

To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week’s pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks’ pay.
