Job summary

PTI Technologies Inc. is a world leader in filtration and fluid control equipment and CAD/PAD devices, seeking a Material Scientist in Oxnard, CA.

The role focuses on developing energetic materials for CAD/PAD, evaluating propellants, and performing mechanical and thermal analyses to drive safety and performance in aerospace applications. You will lead qualification testing, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and support manufacturing process development while upholding regulatory

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Biology or Chemistry.
  • 5–10 years of experience in aerospace design and manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with FAA standards and AS9100 quality management systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks) and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize energetic materials for CAD and PAD.
  • Evaluate propellants, initiators and pyrotechnics.
  • Perform mechanical and thermal analyses and interpret test data.
  • Lead qualification testing and support manufacturing process development.
  • Identify cost-reduction and manufacturability improvements while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Day to day as a Material Scientist

The Material Scientist position at PTI Technologies plays a pivotal role in advancing aerospace and defense applications through the development and optimization of energetic materials for Cartridge Actuated Devices (CAD) and Propellant Actuated Devices (PAD). You will engage in comprehensive materials development, evaluating propellants, initiators, and pyrotechnics, while conducting critical mechanical and thermal analysis. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring that material specifications align with performance and safety criteria throughout the product lifecycle. You will lead qualification testing and support process development for the manufacturing of energetic components, all while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.

Your expertise will contribute to innovation and performance improvements as you identify opportunities for cost reduction and manufacturability enhancements. Requirements for this Material Scientist job

To excel as a Material Scientist at PTI Technologies, a Master’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Biology, or Chemistry is essential, along with 5 to 10 years of experience in aerospace design and manufacturing. Proven expertise as a technical lead is crucial to navigate projects from initial proposal through production. Familiarity with industry regulations such as FAA standards and AS9100 quality management systems is necessary.

Proficiency in tools like SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms, along with strong analytical skills, will be key in interpreting test data and performing failure analysis. Candidates should possess strong communication abilities for effective collaboration with suppliers, customers, and internal teams. Experience in creating technical documents and adhering to product lifecycle management systems is important.

The role requires an understanding of machining practices and a solid foundation in stress analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). A hands-on approach and the ability to mentor team members will enhance success in this dynamic environment.
