Job summary

Metra Commuter Rail is seeking a PTC Systems Engineer 2 to support long-term operations of the Positive Train Control system in the Chicago area. You will troubleshoot, perform Tier 2 analysis, and document events in the PTC ticketing system.

Reporting to the Manager, PTC Engineering, you will install wayside software, initialize equipment on-board trains, and perform root cause analysis while collaborating with other departments to improve operations and documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or in lieu of degree, four years in IT or Engineering with system testing, maintenance, or root cause analysis.
• Four years of experience in a technical help desk, end user support facility, tier 2 support, or root cause analysis of digital components and systems.
• Knowledge of software, computers, operating systems, data communications, data security, and networking technologies.
• Strong root cause analysis process knowledge and effective communication skills.
• Proven ability to work with employees at all levels and contractors; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to personnel experiencing issues with the PTC system, including onboard equipment initialization and wayside software installation.
• Create signal work orders, dispatch Maintainers, and document events clearly and concisely.
• Perform root cause analyses of events and issues and recommend preventive actions.
• Collaborate with other departments to improve troubleshooting methods and documentation.
• Maintain configuration management and QA practices for the PTC system.
• This position is subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
