Job summary

College of Mainland's TRiO Upward Bound Tutors provide tutoring, mentoring, and general assistance to participants from local high schools. The program serves first-generation students with financial need and may require travel to partner schools and occasional evening or Saturday work.

The position is part-time, non-exempt, grant-funded, with a salary of $13.52 per hour as a starting point. Candidates must have completed 30 college credits, a 3.0 GPA, and B grades in tutoring subjects, with

• Completion of 30 credit hours (college sophomore).
• GPA 3.0 (minimum).
• Minimum grade of 'B' in core tutoring subject(s).
• Tutoring high school students; Student and/or substitute teaching; Coaching teenagers; Dual Credit/AP; ECHS.

Responsibilities

• Provide tutoring, mentoring, and assistance to participants on and off campus.
• Communicate updates and concerns to Advisor/Director.
• Encourage participants to complete tasks, deadlines, and events.
• Assist with Saturday Academies on and off campus.
• Maintain a safe learning environment and confidentiality of student records.

Job description

TRiO Upward Bound Tutors provide tutoring, mentoring, and general assistance to participants. COM UB is a federally funded four year college preparation program serving 70 potential first generation college students with financial need from the following high schools: La Marque HS, Texas City HS, Hitchcock HS, Dickinson HS.
UB Tutors must be flexible and may travel to/from COM to partnering high schools and may work evenings and/or select Saturdays.
