Job summary

College of the Mainland in Texas City seeks Supplemental Instructors to deliver content and skill-building in small groups.

You will attend trainings, assist instructed classes, hold review sessions, and maintain accurate attendance and time logs, while upholding confidentiality and professional conduct. Applicants should be current COM students with GPA 2.8+ and instructor endorsement; evening availability is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current COM student with GPA 2.8+ and completed prerequisites with a B or higher.
  • Must be recommended by a COM instructor and have completed a course with the instructor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead discussion/review sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Attend trainings as requested by instructor and Director of Tutoring.
  • Attend assigned classes, take notes, and participate as requested.
  • Hold review sessions for students and keep accurate records of attendance.
  • Report attendance and time logs to the Director of Tutoring monthly.
  • Submit time logs via Web Advisor for approval.

Current student at College of the Mainland.
Successfully completed content – specific courses and all prerequisites with a B or higher.
Accumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
Must be recommended by a current COM instructor and have successfully completed a course with the instructor.


Preferred Education/Training/Experience


Successfully completed content – specific courses and all prerequisites with an A.


Ability to work in a collaborative environment.
Ability to lead students in discussions and review sessions in content – specific areas.
Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports.
Ability to maintain records.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Fluency in Microsoft Office, including MS Word and Powerpoint; ability to learn additional software as needed.
Ability to operate standard office, computer, and video recording equipment.

Job Duties


Attend all trainings as requested by instructor and Director of Tutoring
Attend all assigned classes, be on time, take notes and participate upon request of instructor.
Hold review sessions for students as requested by instructor.
Act in a professional manner.
Keep accurate record of all students who attend review sessions.
Report to instructor which students attend review sessions.
Correspond with instructor prior to class and/or review session if unable to attend.
Keep accurate time log of all classes attended and review sessions held.
Report time log to Director of Tutoring before the end of each month.
Submit time log on Web Advisor for Director of Tutoring approval.


Physical Requirements


Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Work requires stooping, crouching, and repetitive motions.
Work requires sedentary work/sitting up to 50% of the time.
Occasionally may have to lift up to 20 lbs.
