Primary Purpose
To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers, adhering to Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with store associates. Assist the Customer Service Manager and Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to the Front End Standard Practice Manual, and maximize sales through excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
- Greet each customer and use their name whenever possible.
- Unload customers’ groceries from carts to belts, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging.
- Check the bottom of carts and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
- Follow correct bagging procedures for different types of bags.
- Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice.
- Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
- Handle cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers following procedures.
- Follow procedures for refunds and error correction.
- Maintain accurate cash control to the best of your ability.
- Perform overrides as necessary.
- Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their order to their car.
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to meet service standards.
- Check prices quickly and accurately.
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
- Wear the Food Lion uniform, apron, name badge, and maintain a neat appearance, adhering to dress code.
- Retrieve shopping carts from parking lots and cart corrals using tether straps.
- Keep work station and front end area tidy and clean.
- Report register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
- Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is stocked and functioning properly.
- Adhere to all company policies, guidelines, and standard practices.
- Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents.
- Report cleaning or maintenance issues in the front end area.
- Complete computer-based training and training aids successfully.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Effective communication and customer service skills.
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements.
- Ability to perform cashier and service center duties.
- Must meet minimum age requirements for specific functions.
- Ability to meet physical requirements with or without accommodations.
Physical Requirements
- Use of computers and communication systems.
- Repetitive hand and arm motions.
- Bend and lift weights up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Stand 100% of the time, with frequent short-distance walking.
- Handle substances related to cleaning, packaging, and food products.
- Handle currency and operate equipment like cash registers, scanners, and computers.
- Reach and grasp at waist level, occasionally above or below waist.
- Work in extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes.
- Visual ability to check IDs, checks, and documents.
