Job summary

City of Jonesboro is seeking a friendly, organized Part-time Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for citizens, contractors, developers, and visitors. You will welcome guests, answer inquiries, assist with permit and application questions, prepare routine documents, and keep department files and databases up to date while supporting overall office operations for 20–25 hours per week.

The City of Jonesboro is seeking a customer‑focused Part‑time Receptionist to serve as the first point of contact for citizens, contractors, developers, and visitors.

What You'll Do
  • Welcome visitors and answer questions in person and over the phone.
  • Assist citizens, contractors, and developers with permit and application inquiries.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, ordinances, agendas, and other documents.
  • Organize and maintain department files and databases.
  • Help prepare meeting packets for boards and commissions.
  • Maintain office supplies and support.
  • Work 20‑25 hours per week, M‑F 12:30p – 5:00p. Occasionally fill in for the mornings as needed.

General Description of Position

This position is responsible for providing reception and administrative support to the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Acts as receptionist daily.
  • Maintains office supply inventory daily.
  • Composes and types routine office correspondence, reports, ordinances, resolutions, etc. daily.
  • Maintains files for all department subdivisions, site plan and zoning records, and updates the information tracking system daily.
  • Acts as the point of input for all software automation processes for permit submissions daily.
  • Responds to citizen requests in a complete, courteous and timely manner by telephone or front counter daily.
  • Assists in the development of review packets for various boards and commissions weekly.
  • Assists in database maintenance of all incoming plats and applications; assigns case numbers daily.
  • Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to four years of high school or GED, with particular emphasis during high school in office skills, shop skills, or others, plus 0‑6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication Skills

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person‑to‑person and small group situations with customers, clients, the general public and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these mathematical skills using money and other forms of measurement.

Critical Thinking Skills

Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Software Skills Required

Microsoft Office, Spreadsheets, Word Processing/Typing.

Operating Conditions and Physical Activities
  • Office setting with controlled temperature, low noise level, and limited distractions.
  • Primary seated work with occasional standing, walking, climbing or balancing, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Requires close and distance vision.
