Job summary

Halifax Community College is seeking a Part-Time Literacy Education Instructor to teach the Literacy Education Classroom and ensure that instruction aligns with placement test scores and student needs.

The position reports to the Director of Literacy Education and requires maintaining student records, employing diverse teaching styles, and meeting contract requirements. Day and evening shifts are available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education or a related field.
• Prior teaching experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach literacy education classes and ensure proper procedures are followed.
• Meet students’ needs based on placement testing scores and monitor progress.
• Maintain records and documents for student progress and attendance.
• Use varied teaching and learning styles to support diverse learners.
• Follow tasks assigned by the Director of Literacy Education and contract requirements.
• Prepare weekly/monthly lesson plans and participate in professional development.

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Literacy Education, the Part-Time Literacy Education Instructor is responsible for teaching and ensuring that proper procedures are followed and appropriate resources are available to meet the needs of each student in the Literacy Education Classroom. The position will ensure that literacy education students receive appropriate levels of instruction based upon their respective placement testing score(s) . The position will monitor students’ progress and strive to enhance students success.

Examples of Duties

• 1.Assist the literacy education program in meeting or exceeding state benchmark percentages for completion of Education Functional Levels (EFL), Measurable Skills Gains (MSG), Post-testing, and students obtaining and retaining employment.
• 2. Assist students enter postsecondary education or job training
• 3. Assist in recruiting for Halifax Community Colleges English as a Second Language Class,
• Halifax Community Colleges Literacy Education Class, and etc.
• 4. Maintain students’ records and documents
• 5. Meet classes as assigned by contract
• 6. Use a variety of teaching and learning styles
• 7. Take professional development trainings, webinars, meetings, seminars, and conferences
• 8. Follow the North Carolina Community College System College and Career Readiness
• Adult Basic Education Content Standards and Benchmarks
• 9. Excellent multitasking, time management and organizational skills
• 10. Maintain weekly/monthly lesson plans
